57 too old to work?…… tell Madonna & Growing Talent!

13/10/2024

This news clip was published on Tuesday 8 October, same day Growing Talent held its four-part ‘getting to know you’ event with recruiting employers BEFORE the selection stages!

As always on Growing Talent there was a diverse mixture of fabulously talented, but currently unemployed candidates. From 18 to late 50s. No education to degree and even MPhil! Solid work history to sporadic volunteer experience. A lot of bruises gained from their life journey so far.

Growing Talent does not have an upper age limit nor qualification requirement to go apply.

What we find, every time, is a bunch of people who walk into the room a little anxious, suspicious, many with little self-belief yet walk out smiling, connected with a sense of belonging having encouraged and support each other over four hours!

Heart, integrity and commitment is not defined by age.

A few years back we had a candidate – Estella – 62 at the time, selected and worked for a national front of house organisation for 2 years before leaving to start her own business!

Retirement age in the UK is constantly pushed back – whether through choice or Government restrictions.

Employers/recruiters who don’t open their eyes to the hidden talent of people they interview are potentially missing out on a vibrant, talented workforce able to add value and commitment.

What do you think?
