How is motivation holding up after the first week on site?
23/05/2016
My weekly phone call to the Growing Talent Associates revealed a mixture of emotions and experience now the first week of their role placements have been completed.
Paul, Emma & Nad have experienced the intense training Harrow Green gives to all new Associates. This gives them a solid foundation to build their experience on. With a strong knowledge of the business, they can make a difference very quickly to the teams they will be working with.
Emma will be working in the office with the security manager ensuring compliance. This also means some early starts – 6am later this week!
Paul will be with the International Team based at Silvertown. He was unhappy at only scoring 8.5 out of 10 for wrapping a chair – ever the perfectionist!
Nad was as enthused as Paul and Emma even though his Sunday pub lunch was distrubed by my call! He’s enjoying the physical work at Harrow Green. He see’s this as a ‘free gym’! Nad is also open to other development areas in the future.
The training is varied and includes the basics of business moves – wrapping, packing, transporting, reinstalling, client site visits and depot location visits. Training runs from 10am-3pm. All are eager to get their teeth into the full days/shifts ahead.
Next I spoke with Len. Working with the niche property business – Invest In BuybTo Let, Len started off in the original role which had been ringfenced for him – sales consultant.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t the face-to-face sales Len had envisaged and he spoke with Selvan about his thoughts. Luckily, the company is growing so fast, there is an additional vacancy in the marketing team so Len has moved across to work on their website in this area. Len is much happier.
Over at Portico, Anita spoke about the happiness she felt to be back in the world of employment whilst at the same time being exhausted with early starts! He management support – Lynda & Michelle had been really supportive and her buddy was ‘amazing’. Not surprised her buddy – Jacq is a Growing Talent Graduate and knows exactly how Anita feels. Anita is the second person Jacq had buddied. It’s an additional responsibility Jacq relishes. Learning the ropes at Portico as a member of their Welcome Team is demanding but enjoyable. She’s even getting used to the early starts!
Lastly, I caught up with Reece who has been tackling his role as Junior Recruitment Consultant with Pertemps in Enfield with relish! He’s had a varied week working with the team on the recruitment of drivers. This has involved sourcing candidates, speaking with clients, compiling interview packs and so on. ‘It’s exactly what I wanted to do’ said Reece. Good reports back from Pertemps as well.
All in all the Associates have handled the start of their journey very well. Watch this space to see how they get on over the coming weeks….
