“When the going gets tough….”

Billy Ocean’s iconic song is still relevant today, long after its c1985 release.

We’ve all seen this in our working lives. ‘Leaders’ disappear when the **** is about to hit the fan, only to re-surface when it’s over – and usually claim credit for the solution others did!!!

Employers are in a really tough spot right now. The cost of doing business is higher – insurances, premises etc, cost of hiring people, employers NI which leads to a domino impact on their partners, supply chains and communities. Thereby reducing job opportunities.

Tuesday 6 May sees the 40th Orientation and Holistic week with three awesome participants – Alex, Jay and Troy. Completely out of their comfort zone, they will be focussing on life and workplace skills to empower them to hit the ground running when they join their new employers. The will also be qualified i-act (for positive mental health and wellbeing) training. Mental Health Training Managers – integral to building their mind muscle for their own resilience and to support others.

“3? that’s not many.’ Some might cry. But what if they were one of the three? Not everyone is equipped to secure a job in the traditional way.

At Growing Talent if we have one employer with a permanent role, we will still run the programme. Why? because that one life is changed. Who knows what that person will go on to achieve and the difference they will make over time?

I’ve seen it year on year, people that start on Growing Talent in an entry level role are now in senior management positions or running their own businesses. Others have stayed in work making their own choices and leading the life they want without Government support.

Times are tough, but we’re not going anywhere.
